Lisa Falkenstern
BIOGRAPHY
Lisa Falkenstern is a seasoned illustrator and fine artist with a career spanning more than three decades. Over that time, she has produced close to one thousand book covers for many of the industry’s leading publishers. Her work has earned widespread recognition, including a Gold Medal from the New York Society of Illustrators, along with numerous honors from organizations such as the Los Angeles Society of Illustrators, Phillustration, and Creativity International. Her illustrations have been featured in prominent annuals including Communication Arts, Spectrum, Creativity, 3×3, Infected By Art, and Print. She has also received multiple Best in Show awards from the New Jersey chapter of the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators, as well as jury awards from the New York State Museum’s biennial Focus on Nature exhibitions. Her fine art has been exhibited with Allied Artists of America and the Catharine Lorillard Wolfe Art Club, and is held in the permanent collections of the New York Society of Illustrators and the New York State Museum, in addition to numerous private collections. Falkenstern has illustrated several children’s books, including The Busy Tree and My Very Own Pirate Book. She is also both author and illustrator of A Dragon Moves In and Professor Whiskerton Presents Steampunk ABC. Her work has been featured in publications highlighting fantasy and illustration, including Women of Wonder, which focuses on women fantasy painters, and Paperbacks from Hell, a survey of horror paperback art from the 1970s and 1980s.
Working across oil, acrylic, and egg tempera, Falkenstern creates imaginative, magic realist paintings that she exhibits in galleries nationwide. |
